The Brandywine Red Tomato is one of the most famous and beloved heirloom varieties, known for its exceptional flavor and large, juicy fruits. The tomatoes typically weigh 10–16 ounces, with a round, slightly flattened shape and a deep, vibrant red color. The flesh is thick, meaty, and succulent, with a well-balanced combination of sweet and tangy flavors, making it ideal for slicing, sandwiches, salads, or fresh eating.
Indeterminate plants grow to 5–7 feet tall and produce a consistent harvest of large, flavorful tomatoes throughout the growing season. These plants thrive in full sun and require consistent watering to maintain the best texture and flavor. Given the size of the fruit, staking or caging is often necessary for support.
80 days from transplant. Introduced by Johnson and Stokes in 1889, this is the original Brandywine, and is the only one of the Brandywines to have a documented Amish history. Named after Brandywine Creek in Chester County, PA. Large vines produce deep red 10-16 ounce fruits. Excellent flavor, that is intense and rich. Very productive.
