The Costoluto Genevese Tomato is an Italian heirloom variety known for its rich flavor and striking, ribbed appearance. The medium-sized fruits typically weigh 6–8 ounces and have a bright red color with deep, prominent ridges and an almost fluted shape. The flesh is juicy, meaty, and flavorful, with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, making it ideal for slicing, sauces, and fresh salads.
Indeterminate plants grow to 5–6 feet tall, producing an abundant yield of tomatoes throughout the growing season. These plants thrive in full sun and need consistent moisture to produce the best fruits. Given the ribbed shape and size of the tomatoes, staking or caging is recommended for support.
Originating from Genoa, Italy. 80 days from transplant. Italian Heirloom variety. Particularly popular in the Piedmont Region, this is the heart of the tomato sauce industry in Italy. Costoluto means "ribbed" in Italian, which helps describe this variety. Fruits are a deep red color and weigh an average of about 8 ounces. Very heavy producer. Thick-walled, with few seeds, that makes it perfect for sauces and cooking. Can also be eaten fresh. Taste is tart, but flavorful.
