The German Johnson Tomato is a beloved heirloom variety known for its large, meaty fruits and exceptional flavor. The tomatoes typically weigh 8–16 ounces and have a slightly flattened, beefsteak-like shape with a rich, deep red color. The flesh is thick and juicy, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, making it ideal for slicing, sandwiches, and fresh eating.
75 days from transplant. Indeterminate plants grow to 5–7 feet tall, producing a steady yield of large, flavorful tomatoes throughout the growing season. They thrive in full sun and benefit from consistent moisture to maintain the best flavor and texture. Staking or caging is recommended to support the heavy fruits.
Originating in Virginia, the German Johnson Tomato has been a favorite for generations. Pink/Red Beefsteaks, that average up to 1 pound. Enjoy that good, old fashioned tomato flavor. Excellent for those BLT's. Also, a good choice for canning. Very little cracking. Although, not a lot is known about the history of this variety, we do know that it originated from the Bavarian region of Germany, and has been around since the late 1800's.
