The German Pink Tomato is a classic heirloom variety known for its large, meaty fruits and mild, sweet flavor. The tomatoes typically weigh 10–16 ounces and have a round, slightly flattened shape with a vibrant pinkish-red color. The flesh is firm and juicy, offering a rich sweetness with a hint of tang, making it perfect for slicing, sandwiches, and fresh salads.
Indeterminate plants grow to 5–7 feet tall, producing a steady harvest of large, flavorful tomatoes throughout the growing season. These plants thrive in full sun and require consistent moisture to produce the best fruit. Staking or caging is recommended to support the weight of the tomatoes.
85 days from transplant. This beautiful family Heirloom was brought to the U.S. from Bavaria by Michael Ott in 1883. It was passed down through the generations till it finally would up with Ott's great granddaughter, Diane Ott Whealy, who then gave it to Seed Saver's Exchange. Large pink beefsteaks that are in the 1-2 pound range and are absolutely mouthwatering. Meaty flesh with few seeds. Very productive. Good choice for slicing and canning.
