The Old German Tomato is a stunning heirloom variety known for its large, multi-colored fruits and sweet, complex flavor. The tomatoes typically weigh 1–2 pounds and have a unique, bi-colored appearance with hues of yellow, red, and orange. The flesh is meaty and juicy, with a rich, sweet flavor that is less acidic, making it perfect for slicing, sandwiches, or fresh eating.
Indeterminate plants grow to 6–7 feet tall, producing a steady yield of these vibrant, flavorful tomatoes throughout the growing season. These plants thrive in full sun and need consistent moisture to produce the best quality fruit. Staking or caging is recommended to support the large fruit load.
80 days from transplant. A favorite old heirloom tomato variety that originated in a Mennonite community in Virginia. A great big slicing tomato, Old German has a wonderful flavor, beautiful variegated coloring, and weighs in at 24 Oz. This variety is a multicolored beefsteak, that dates back to the mid 1800's, from the Shenandoah Valley. The Mennonites take great pride in their heritage, faith and way of life. First sold commercially in 1985 by Southern Exposure Seed Exchange.
